Mr. Gomukha, 2010
Pencil, 6.75" x 3" on 9" x 8" sheet. According to Maxon "Gomukha" means "cow-faced" in Hindi and is a compliment as it refers to the reverence the Indians hold for all living things - especially cattle. It is a sketch for a painting used to illustrate a Poe poem "Alone" to be published by Graphic Classics, fall 2011. Novel rendering of storm cloud, rain and rain drops in pool animates this mystical drawing. Three very small, light tan stains (one by the figure's left hand - the others not in the drawing area); a few very light erasure lines, else typical Maxon working drawing.
